Feeling Tired of Trying to Lose Weight? You’re Not Alone
Let me tell you about and email I received from someone I’ll call Jessica.
She’s 42, a mom of three, and she leads the women’s Bible study at her church. On the outside, she looks like she has it all together. But last week she told me:
“Kim, I feel like a fraud. I tell everyone else how much God loves them, but secretly, I hate my body. I binge almost every weekend, and I spend the rest of the week punishing myself with workouts. I’m tired of pretending I’m okay.”
Her words hit me hard—because I’ve been Jessica. And maybe you have too.
If you’ve prayed, started again, gotten discouraged, and felt like maybe this is just how it’s always going to be—I want you to take a deep breath. You are not alone. And more importantly, you are not stuck.
That’s why I created this guide: three biblical steps you can start today to finally break free and build lasting results.

Tired of Trying to Lose Weight? Do These 3 Things Instead
Step 1: Recognize This Is a Spiritual Battle
This isn’t just about food, fitness, or willpower. This is spiritual warfare.
Jessica’s struggle wasn’t a lack of knowledge—she had tried every plan. The enemy wasn’t attacking her body. He was attacking her identity.
Whispers like:
- “You’ll never change.”
- “You’re too old.”
- “Why even try?”
- “God must be disappointed in you.”
Sound familiar?
God’s Word gives us hope in Galatians 6:9:
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Action Step: Write down the lies the enemy has been whispering and replace them with what God says.
- Lie: “You’ll always be stuck.”
- Truth: “I am a new creation in Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Step 2: Reset With Grace, Not Guilt
So many of us live in an all-or-nothing mindset. Jessica did too. If she ate one “bad” meal, it spiraled into a weekend of bingeing, followed by guilt, over-restriction, and another Monday restart.
But God’s Word says something completely different:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed… His mercies are new every morning.”
– Lamentations 3:22–23
God isn’t asking you to be perfect. He’s inviting you to come back to Him—again and again.
Action Step: Don’t wait for Monday. Start fresh right now with this prayer:
“Jesus, I’m tired of trying to fix myself. I give You this part of my life. I want Your peace, not the world’s pressure. Help me start again—with You.”
Step 3: Replace Shame With Strategy
Jessica felt stuck because she didn’t have a plan that aligned with her faith. She was following fitness influencers who knew macros but not Jesus. Instead of feeling equipped, she felt confused, discouraged, and disconnected from God.
But God promises us this in 1 Corinthians 10:13:
“God is faithful… He will provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
You don’t need another quick hack. You need a holy strategy.
Action Step: Stop following influencers who distract you from God’s truth. Build a Christ-centered plan that includes:
- Prayer and time in God’s Word
- God-made, whole foods
- Movement as an act of worship
- A mindset rooted in Scripture
This is the kind of strategy that lasts—because it’s built on faith, not shame.

Christian Fitness and Weight Loss FAQS:
Why do I keep starting over when I’m trying to lose weight?
Often we rely on willpower alone, which eventually runs out. The Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:9 to not grow weary because our harvest will come. When you build your plan on God’s strength instead of your own, you can finally break the cycle of starting over.
What does the Bible say about self-control and food?
God calls us to rely on His Spirit for self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). That means we don’t have to be slaves to cravings, diets, or guilt. With prayer and daily surrender, we can choose God’s peace over the world’s pressure.
How can I make my fitness journey God-first?
Start by inviting Him into your daily routine. Pray before workouts, thank Him for the ability to move, choose God-made foods, and use Scripture to speak truth over yourself when discouragement sets in.
If you’ve been tired of trying to lose weight and wondering if real change is possible, know this: with God, nothing is impossible. You are not stuck. You are loved, chosen, and equipped to walk this out with Him.
