Why fitness results don’t last is something so many women quietly struggle with.
You try.
You commit.
You see progress.
And then somehow… you end up right back where you started.
If you’ve ever wondered why fitness results don’t last, it’s not because you’re doing everything wrong. It’s because of how you’ve been taught to approach fitness in the first place.
The world’s way looks like it should work—but it’s built on something that can’t sustain lasting change.
Listen to this episode “Why Fitness Results Don’t Last: God’s Way vs The World’s Way” on the Living God’s Way Podcast with Kim Dolan Leto:
The Real Reason Why Fitness Results Don’t Last
The world teaches you to control your body.
Control your calories.
Control your workouts.
Control the number on the scale.
And when life happens and you lose control… You feel like you failed.
This is the deeper reason why fitness results don’t last—because control is exhausting, and it was never meant to carry the weight of your identity, your peace, or your consistency.
Eventually, that pressure leads to burnout… and the cycle starts again.
I know this because I lived it. God opened doors in my fitness journey that I never could have created on my own. I was on over 25 magazine covers and competing at the highest level—and from the outside, it looked like success.
But what He was really showing me was this: the only way to truly succeed was to rely fully on Him. Because fitness was never meant to be about a body—it’s about a life lived in surrender and service to Him.
These photos of my fitness modeling and fitness competition days below are from that season.
And while it may have looked like success, God was using it to teach me something deeper—what actually lasts.

But I Learned God’s Way Is Different
Where the world teaches control, God teaches stewardship. While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look your best, fitness results won’t last if they aren’t for God’s glory.
Romans 12:1 says:
“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
This changes everything.
Your health is no longer about fixing your body.
It becomes about caring for what God entrusted to you.
And when your mindset shifts from control to stewardship, something powerful happens:
- You stop striving
- You start stewarding
- You begin to experience peace instead of pressure
Why Fitness Results Don’t Last Without Identity
Another reason why fitness results don’t last is because the world builds fitness on insecurity.
Comparison.
Appearance.
“Not enough” thinking.
But when your confidence is tied to:
- the mirror
- the scale
- how your body looks
Your consistency will always rise and fall.
Hebrews 12:2 reminds us:
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
When your identity is rooted in Christ—not your appearance—your habits begin to follow from a place of stability, not pressure.
Transformation Starts in Your Mind
Romans 12:2 says:
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
This is where lasting change begins.
Not in a new diet.
Not in a new workout plan.
But in how you think.
This is the shift most women miss—and it’s another reason why fitness results don’t last when you follow the world’s system.
When your thinking changes, your actions follow.
What Actually Leads to Lasting Results
If you’ve been stuck in the cycle, here’s the truth:
Lasting fitness results don’t come from more discipline.
They come from alignment with God.
When you:
- invite God into your health
- steward your body instead of controlling it
- anchor your identity in Christ
You begin to build consistency that actually lasts.
A Question to Reflect On
Where have you been approaching your health with pressure…
and where might God be inviting you into peace instead?
