Your Feelings Will Fail You. God’s Truth Never Will

Kim Dolan Leto sharing Christian encouragement about following Jesus instead of your feelings on the Living God's Way blog.

So often we follow our feelings. Our culture says, “Follow your heart.” Jesus says, “Follow Me.” Whose voice is leading your life?

Have you ever made a decision because of how you felt, only to look back and wish you hadn’t? Maybe you felt discouraged and wanted to give up. Maybe anxiety convinced you to expect the worst. Maybe you didn’t feel close to God, so you assumed He was distant.

We’ve all been there.

The truth is, God created us with emotions. They’re part of how He made us. But our feelings were never meant to become our guide. They change with our circumstances, our disappointments, our fears, and even how much sleep we got the night before.

God’s truth never changes. That’s why we need to follow Jesus not out feelings.

Romans 12:2 reminds us:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

God never tells us to believe every thought we think. He tells us to renew our minds with His truth. Real transformation doesn’t begin when your circumstances change. It begins when your mind is renewed by God’s Word.

Why Following Your Feelings Will Leave You Stuck

Our culture tells us to trust ourselves, follow our hearts, and live our truth. Jesus offers a completely different invitation:

“Follow Me.”

That’s more than a comforting statement. It’s a daily decision.

Following Jesus means we stop letting our emotions determine what’s true and start allowing God’s Word to shape the way we think, believe, and live.

Your feelings are real. But they were never meant to become your authority.

God’s Word is.

Feelings Are Real. They Just Aren’t Facts.

Fear may tell you you’re alone. Shame may tell you you’ll never change. Discouragement may tell you it’s time to quit.

But just because something feels true doesn’t mean God says it’s true.

One of the greatest changes in my own walk with God happened when I stopped asking,

“How do I feel?”

and started asking,

“Lord, what is true?”

That one question changes everything.

Instead of reacting emotionally, you begin responding biblically.

Instead of believing every thought that enters your mind, you learn to compare it with God’s Word.

Instead of letting fear make your decisions, you begin walking by faith.

Little by little, your thoughts begin to change. Your peace begins to grow. And your life starts reflecting God’s truth more than your emotions.

That’s what renewing your mind looks like. It isn’t pretending your feelings don’t exist.

It’s bringing them to Jesus and allowing His truth to have the final word.

If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety, fear, discouragement, overwhelm, negative thinking, or simply feeling emotionally exhausted, I recorded this episode for you.

In this week’s episode of the Living God’s Way Podcast, I’ll walk you through five biblical ways to stop letting your emotions lead your life and start letting God’s truth become your foundation.

Together we’ll talk about:

  • Why the real battle begins in your mind.
  • How to renew your mind with God’s Word.
  • Why Jesus never told us to follow our hearts.
  • How to recognize lies before they shape your life.
  • Practical ways to experience God’s peace, even when life feels overwhelming.

This isn’t just another conversation about positive thinking.

It’s about learning to think like Christ so you can experience the peace He promises.

One Question That Can Change Your Day

The next time fear, anxiety, discouragement, or shame tries to take over, pause and ask yourself one simple question:

“Lord, what is true?”

That question shifts your focus from your emotions to God’s promises. It reminds you that your circumstances don’t define reality—God’s Word does.

You may not be able to control every feeling that comes into your mind, but through Christ, you can choose which voice you’ll believe.

That’s how we begin renewing our minds—one thought, one prayer, and one act of faith at a time.

Don’t Miss This Conversation

If you’ve ever…

  • Wondered why you struggle to experience peace.
  • Let fear make your decisions.
  • Believed lies about yourself.
  • Felt overwhelmed by anxious thoughts.
  • Wanted to trust God more but didn’t know where to begin.

I believe this episode will encourage you.

There’s so much more I want to share with you than I could fit into this article.

In this episode, we’ll walk through these five biblical shifts together, and my prayer is that you’ll walk away with practical tools to stop letting your feelings lead your life and start letting God’s truth shape the way you think, live, and follow Jesus.

I hope you’ll listen today.
